NETTNETT RADIO
The following manifesto was written with the contributions of a small, yet explosive group of people who decided to come together in the internet radio multiverse. Thank you to all the radio-makers who have poured their sounds into our hearts and minds since 10/10/2020.
MANIFESTO
nettnettradio is an expansive network of guerrilla radio makers working to cultivate an art and information channel that aggregates stories from citizens around the world. As a freethinking radio community, we advocate for accessibility, the exchange of knowledge and the development of safe spaces for the production and broadcasting of diverse cultural and artistic practices – essential processes for social, physical and mental well-being. We operate as a self-organized, non-profit, non-corporatized group of artists, activists and innovators that believe in revolution through radio. Now, more than ever, we must work together to develop solidarity among a diverse and impactful web of trans-continental voices.
STORY
Originally based out of downtown Tijuana, nettnettradio, supported by nettnettspace, connects diverse individuals, groups of radio makers, and curators by transmitting a collectively curated, non-commercial internet radio channel, educational opportunities, workshops and tools for self-organized broadcast.
A mere 15 minute walk from one of the planet’s most contested border regions in Tijuana, Mexico, nettnettspace functions in a local microclimate shaped by global conditions, arrested migration, and transitory culture.
The liminal nature of international borders inspired our vision to grow a network of active listeners and contributors to create a financially and culturally sustainable member-supported internet radio from around the world.
nettnett is a space located on the second floor of Pasaje Rodriguez, in the historic center of Tijuana. Since August 2016, nettnett has functioned as a studio for the experimentation of cultural practices with the support of local and visiting artists, curators, creators, activists and “gestores”. In June 2020, the existence of this space was compromised. Yet, as some of our community members realized that now more than ever it is urgent that we participate to forge the multicultural[realities] that we want to experience and share for personal and communal well-being.
While the pandemic roared across the globe, some busy bees were catapulting nettnett out of the walls of the physical space and into the realms of borderless online sound waves. Today, nettnett in Tijuana still serves as an artist-run space and studio for visiting and local makers, activists and inspiring networked creatives. Currently we are specifically focusing on experimental, community and artistic internet radio.
nettnettradio is run as a cooperative with a sociocratic structure. We focus on transparency, consensus and supporting the initiatives of artists and activists who practice freedom to be themselves. We hope to provide space for increased awareness and sensibility to environmental, social and personal well-being. The space hosted in nettnettradio.com is geared toward supporting meaningful, borderless, communication, access and participation, direction action, reflection and reiteration.
